Ozymandias watchmen i did it4/3/2023 ![]() ![]() Black-and-White Insanity: Subverted and Played With. ![]() Big Bad Friend: A genial and polite man who's made a friend/acquaintance out of most of the characters in the story later on turns out to be the primary source of all of the mishaps going on throughout the story-with the exception of the Cold War tensions, mind you.Unlike Bruce Wayne, Adrian quickly reasons that he can do far more good with his wealth, public image, and company than with actual superhero exploits, and his super intelligence and self-made fortune lead to him making the horrific pragmatic decision to kill millions of people to save the world. While Ozymandias lacks the nocturnal Animal-Themed Superbeing or the Hardboiled Detective aesthetic, or even the tragic aspects of Batman, he still plays the other traits straight born into a wealthy family, lost his parents at a young age (although he was old enough to take of himself and process whatever grief he had of them at that time), spent years Walking the Earth before becoming a superhero, runs a corporate empire and has trained himself to both physical and mental perfection. Batman Parody: A less obvious example than Mothman, Nite Owl II, and even Rorschach. The Bad Guy Wins: While the bad guy part is left up in the air, Adrian certainly isn't the good guy.Not that it stopped the Comedian from beating him to a pulp in his younger days. According to him, The Comedian had a skillful feint and a devastating uppercut, but little else. Awesome by Analysis: One look at an opponent's fighting style and he already learns how to counter it.However, Dave Gibbons suggests in the same anecdote that Adrian simply made a mistake due to the mental stress from all that had just happened (flying to the Antarctic, killing millions of people, catching a bullet, etc.) Artistic License History: On page 20 of Chapter 12, Adrian quotes the Egyptian Pharoah Rameses "Canaan is devastated, Ashkelon is fallen, Gezer is ruined, Yenoam is reduced to nothing.Israel is desolate and her seed is no more, and Palestine has become a widow for Egypt. All the countries are unified and pacified." The Annotated Edition points out that the Merneptah Stele hieroglyphics from 1203 B.C.E., which this quote stems from, were done at the behest of Pharoah Merneptah (to celebrate the victory of a major invasion he had successfully repelled) who ruled Egypt immediately after Rameses II, so Adrian is technically incorrect in his quotation, though not disingenuous since surely some of the aforementioned pacification was Rameses' doing. Also, the subsequent weight of this action torments his conscience. A horrendous course of action, but done with the best intentions in mind. Anti-Villain: His ultimate goal is to prevent World War 3 by massacring millions to make the world powers assume it was an alien attack.Watchmen is available to stream on HBO Max.Rorschach's Journal: Possibly homosexual? Must remember to investigate further. However, you can’t deny that we have to at least listen to or consider his points since he is the creator of those works.Īlso Read: Black Adam Star Dwayne Johnson To Become New Face of the DCEU Obviously, it is all just Moore’s own opinion about the matter you can either agree or disagree with what he said. It is not surprising to hear this considering the statements that Moore has also done in the past. The famed writer was definitely brutally honest when he shared his thoughts about the adaptations of his works and shared how he wasn’t pleased with what Lindelof did on the series. I don’t want anything to do with you or your show. I said, ‘Look, this is embarrassing to me. Moore added, “I explained that I had disowned the work in question, and partly that was because the film industry and the comics industry seemed to have created things that had nothing to do with my work, but which would be associated with it in the public mind. “Can you at least tell us how to pronounce ‘Ozymandias’?” I got back with a very abrupt and probably hostile reply telling him that I’d thought that Warner Brothers were aware that they, nor any of their employees, shouldn’t contact me again for any reason. “It went on through a lot of, what seemed to me to be, neurotic rambling. Moore, I am one of the bastards currently destroying Watchmen.” That wasn’t the best opener,” he continued. But the letter, I think it opened with, “Dear Mr. “And a frank letter from the showrunner of the Watchmen television adaptation, which I hadn’t heard was a thing at that point. It would be torturous, and for no very good reason,” Moore said regarding the adaptations based on his works before he shared an anecdote regarding the time when series showrunner Daniel Lindelof sent him a letter. From what I’ve heard of them, it would be enormously punishing. “I would be the last person to want to sit through any adaptations of my work. ![]()
